About Us

Conservation Landholders Tasmania is in the process of restarting after a two year pause in its operation.

Conservation Landholders Tasmania (CLT) is a community of private landholders committed to protecting and restoring Tasmania’s natural landscapes. After analysing the survey circulated during winter and early spring of 2025, along with the insights gathered at the Campbell Town forum, CLT is now gearing up to restart with renewed energy and direction.

Our focus is to support covenant landholders through collaborationpractical assistance, and advocacy on issues that matter for private land conservation. While our identity remains firmly rooted in representing covenant landholders, we also recognise the important role played by many non-covenanted but conservation-minded landholders. CLT aims to be a welcoming space for all who share a commitment to protecting Tasmania’s biodiversity.

Together, we are building a stronger, more connected voice for conservation on private land.

History of TLC

The original CLT was formed in 2012 in response to a 2011 survey of 489 covenant landowners.

Between 2012 and 2023, CLT ran 13 field days, 5 field weekends and 9 conservation forums on topics requested by covenant landowners, with the support of its then partner organisations Tasmanian Land Conservancy, the three regional NRMs and Landcare Tasmania.

CLT had a website with information about future events, reports from past events, and links to relevant online resources. CLT was run by fellow covenant landowners as unpaid volunteers.

Between 2012 and 2018 it ran as an informal association, and as a registered charitable trust after that. Earlier this year the CLT Trust was wound up.

Apart from the CLT Trust helping covenant landowners navigate the compulsory rezoning of their properties during the transition to the Tasmanian Planning Scheme, CLT chose not to play a representative/advocacy role on behalf of covenant landowners.
